Robert Parker comments on the Meursault Premier Cru Perrières 2020: “The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is a magical wine in the making. Wafting from the glass with scents of citrus oil, pear, beeswax, white flowers and wet stones, it's medium to full-bodied, taut and chiseled, with huge concentration, racy acids and a long, searingly chalky finish. This is old-school, uncompromising, artisanal winemaking at its best.”

The wines of the domaine are famous for their elegancy, good balance and perfect acidity level.

History

1973

Domaine Henri Germain & Fils is managed by Jean-François Germain. Jean-François Germain is married to François Jobard’s daughter and extended the domains’ vineyards with Meursault premier cru Poruzots. Their daughter, Lucie, has recently joined the domaine.

The domaine was founded in 1973 by Jean-François’s Germain father Henri Germain. His origins come from the Domaine Château de Chorey-les Beaune. After the marriage, Henri Germain obtained Chassagne holdings from his wife’s family.

Approach

Biodynamic since 2021, Organic without certification

Domaine Henri Germain & Fils is farmed biodynamically since 2021 but without certification.

The grapes are not crushed before pressing. When the lees are clean, racking is not conducted. The vinification is conducted without adding yeasts; it lasts 18 to 22 days depending on the appellation. Malolactic fermentation is late, due to the cold cellars. The wines are rarely fined or filtered. Little new oak is used - approximately 20 percent. All wines are bottled using high-quality Sardinian corks.
