About
Domaine Coche-Dury
Domaine Coche-Dury is one of the most prestigious domaines in Burgundy, based in Meursault. The domaine is 11 hectares large. Domaine Coche-Dury has been managed by Raphaël Coche since 2010.
The top wines of the domaine are: Corton Grand Cru En Charlemagne, Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières, and Meursault Premier Cru Les Genevrières.
The Corton Grand Cru En Charlemagne 1990 scored 100, the Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières 1996 scored 99, and the Meursault Premier Cru Les Genevrières 2015 scored 97 by the Wine Advocate.
Tasting the Corton Grand Cru En Charlemagne 1990, Robert Parker said: "The finest white wine I enjoyed in 2019 was a pristinely preserved bottle of Coche-Dury's 1990 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a stunning achievement that soars from the glass with scents of orange oil, Anjou pear and ripe citrus fruit mingled with notions of honeycomb, freshly baked bread, praline and cinnamon. Full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, this is a concentrated, elegantly muscular wine of immense depth and dimension, its ample and layered core of fruit built around racy acids and beautifully rendered dry extract. Fully mature but in no danger of decline, this is one of the greatest bottles I've drunk from Jean-François Coche."
Raphaël Coche's style may be characterized by incisive acids, striking intensity and frequently appreciable presence of dry extract.
History
1920
The current winemaker of Domaine Coche-Dury is Raphaël Coche.
The domaine was established in 1920 by Léon Coche. Later on, the estate was succeeded by three of his children. Georges Coche took over Léon Coche's share in the 1960s. Léon Coche bought some vineyards enlarging the domaine.
In 1973 Jean-François Coche succeeded his father, Léon Coche, and passed the winemaking to his son, Raphaël Coche, in 2010.
Approach
The Domaine Coche-Dury practices high-quality viticulture. The vineyards are ploughed, and the pneumatic press is used.
The grapes are well-crushed, then fermented in the barrels with no more than 25 percent of new wood, except for the top wines. In Raphaël Coche's words, the domaine now works with "less new oak, less bâtonnage and less heavy lees."
The red wines are well-perfumed, mostly from lesser appellations. They are lightly extracted during a short vinification. The whites are racked in July when the barrels of some wine types are blended, then returned to cask for a second winter, then bottled cask in April of their second year.
Raphaël Coche has introduced a custom bottling line that performs on a high quality level.
