About
Domaine Albert Grivault
Domaine Albert Grivault has a long history that dates back to the 19th century. The six hectares are located in Meursault, Burgundy. Henri Marc is the winemaker.
The top three wines of the domaine are: Meursault Premier Cru Clos des Perrières, Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières, and Meursault Clos du Murger.
The Meursault Premier Cru Clos des Perrières 2006 scored 93 - 94, the Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières 2012 scored 92, and the Meursault Clos du Murger 2012 scored 90 by the Wine Advocate.
Tasting the Meursault Premier Cru Clos des Perrières 2006, Robert Parker said: “The Grivault 2006 Meursault Clos des Perrieres fills the nose with orange blossom, lemon zest, heliotrope, and fascinating intimations of mineral stuff. Creamy and rich yet not in the least heavy, it saturates the palate with nut cream, toasted grain, candied citrus rind, lip-smacking, savory salinity, and palpable chalk. A real sense of mineral-fruit interplay develops on the palate as this takes on air, and the finish displays fascinating subtlety and impressive length. This should reward at least 6-8 years of cellaring. Predictably, the 2005 was somewhat firmer and sterner, formidably dense, and by no means less possessed of minerality."
History
1877
The winemaker is Henri Marc since 2004. Domaine Albert Grivault was founded in 1877 by Albert Grivault. Albert Grivault managed to establish a vast, 15 hectares large estate. However, he gave his holding of Meursault Charmes to the Hospices de Beaune. Some other vineyards were sold in the first half of the 20th century, including parcels in Clos de Vougeot.
Until the early 1980s, most of the domain's grapes were sold. In 1980 Michel Bardet, the grandson of Albert Grivault took over the domaine and launched bottling there.
Domaine Albert Grivault celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2019.
Approach
The wine ages in barrels, which use 20 percent of new wood for premiers crus. The red wine ages 18 months and vinified cleared of stems. Domaine Albert Grivault bottles its white wines just before the next harvest.
