About

Domaine Patrick Javillier

Domaine Patrick Javillier is located in the heart of Meursault, Burgundy. The domaine is 11 hectares large. The domaine is managed by two winemakers, Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy, who specializes in white wines and Marion Javillier, who makes the red wines.

The top wines of the domaine are: Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger, and Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru.

The Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger 1996 scored 95 - 95, the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2013 scored 92 - 94, and Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Mise Spéciale 2003 scored 92 - 94 by the Wine Advocate.

While tasting the Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger 1996 Robert Parker said: “Revealing spice, stones, butter cookie, and earth tones in its aromatics, the Meursault Cuvee Tete De Murger Mise Speciale has all the superb characteristics of the earlier bottling, yet possesses additional complexity and elegance. Its broad, powerful, full-bodied and hugely ripe flavor profile is redolent with red fruits, earth, minerals, apricots, and candied almonds. This refined yet fat and hedonistic wine has impressive finesse and length. It should be at its best between 2000 and 2007. Bravo!”

The wine style of Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy can be described as balanced, nicely detailed with a refined personality.

History

1945

Domaine Patrick Javillier has two vignerons: Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy since 2011, who specializes in making white wines and Marion Javillier since 2005, who manages the making of red wines.

The winemaking story of Domaine Patrick Javillier started in 1945. Raymond Javillier decided to start winemaking on the 2 hectares, owned by his family.

1974 became the new stage in the life of the domaine. That year Patrick Javillier graduated from the university with a diploma in wine studies. Raymond Javillier handed all the winemaking procedures to his son immediately.

In 2005, Marion Javillier, Patrick Javillier’s daughter, having finished her studies in management, also joined the domaine. Today, she controls all the sales and winemaking of reds.

Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy joined Domaine Patrick Javillier in 2011. He controls the vineyards and is responsible for the white wines.

Approach

The wines in Domaine Patrick Javillier are pruned according to Guyot pruning system.

White wines come from plots located in the villages of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Savigny-les-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton. Red wines come from Savigny-les-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. The fruits are picked at the best time.

Throughout the winemaking process, no artificial yeasts are used. The bunches for red wines are completely destemmed and put into concrete vats. Then a cold pre-fermentation maceration takes place. The juice is pumped over and punched down. After slight pressing, the red wines are put into casks.

White wines are pressed by the pneumatic press and then kept in oak barrels. The number of new barrels varies depending on the plot.

The wines are kept in barrels from 16 to 18 months.
