About

Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons

Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons is a 25 hectares large property in Cérons, Bordeaux. The winery is the holding of Giorgio Cavanna. The vineyards are farmed according to sustainable principles and have been HVE Level 3 certified.

The winery crafts six wines, a portfolio of red, white, rosé, and sweet wine.

Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons wines may be characterized as rich, textured and nuanced. The whites have a particular style, they are sweet wines with natural fatness that does not exclude freshness. At the same time, reds are balanced, melted and concentrated.

The Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons Graves 2014 scored 88 - 90, 2015 scored 87 - 89, and the 2011 scored 86. The Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons Graves Blanc 2013 scored 89, 2014 scored 86 - 88, and 2012 scored 95 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons Graves 2014: “The Château de Cérons “Grand Enclos” 2014 has plenty of raspberry and crème de cassis fruit on the nose, quite candied in style compared to the regular bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with a rigid backbone rendering this foursquare in style, but it is nicely composed and shows commendable complexity on the finish. This is a gutsy Graves that should drink well for a decade after bottling.”

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons Graves Blanc 2013: “Already in bottle, this 2013 Graves offers up notes of tangerine oil, honeyed grapefruit and lemon zest in a medium-bodied, fragrant, fleshy style. It should drink well for 2 to 3 years.”

Approach

The 25 hectares of Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons vineyards are farmed according to sustainable principles and have been certified sustainable HVE Level 3.

The soil there has great drainage, it’s a mix of pebbles, gravel and sand over limestone layers.

After fermentation, the wine is transferred into wooden barrels for further ageing which lasts from 12 to 14 months. The ageing time depends on the vintage.
