History

1858

Nowadays, the vinification of Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is under the lead of Charles Arnoux. His father, Pascal Lachaux, took over the domaine in 1987 after the retirement of Robert Arnoux, to whose daughter he was married. At that time, the domaine was called Robert Arnoux, and only after 20 years of Pascal Lachaux's reign was it changed to Arnoux-Lachaux to comply with both family names.

Charles Lachaux is a core member of the authoritative younger vignerons community.

Approach

Biodynamic, Organic without certification

Although the domaine has no official certification, the vineyards are farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles. Charles Lachaux brought a post-modern breath to the domaine and started to use a new vines training system - gobelet, training at 1.60 meters height and arching over instead of hedging. Charles believes that phenolic ripeness comes earlier with doubled foliage and a reduced crop.

Pascal and Charles Lachaux prefer to destem entirely. Vinification is done with whole bunches. The vinification takes no more than two weeks and is done without the usage of sulfur, though some will be added after malolactic and before bottling. With time, less and less new wood is being used. For the grand crus, it is 30 percent of new wood, and for the premier crus – between 15 and 20 percent. Wines are bottled without being fined or filtered.
