About
Château Marojallia
Château Marojallia is found in the heart of Margaux, in Margaux-Cantenac, Bordeaux. The vines are planted on 6 hectares of plots and are farmed according to a non-certified sustainable approach. The estate is owned by the Porcheron family. The family has produced good quality wines for about 25 years.
Château Marojallia produces two wines: Château Marojallia Margaux, and Clos Margalaine (2nd wine). The Château Marojallia Margaux 2000 scored 96, 2010 and 2009 scored 95+, and 2003 scored 95 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Château Marojallia Margaux 2000 are: “From the partnership of Jean-Luc Thunevin and Muriel Andraud, the 2000 Marojallia was thought to be a flash-in-the-pan garage wine in 2000, but it is showing its stature and gravitas with its powerful evolution. The wine has a deep ruby/purple color and a beautiful nose of subtle charcoal, jus de viande, violets, blueberries, and black currants. Elegant yet full, pure, and substantial, this wine has wonderful suppleness, length, and a terrific finish. The tannins are round, and the wine ideally should be drunk over the next 10-15+ years.”
History
Château Marojallia is owned by Philippe Porcheron, while Sebastien Valette is the director. In 1999 Philippe Porcheron took over Château Marojallia from his parents. Simultaneously he was in charge of Château Bouqueyran (Moulis).
In order to increase the estate's holdings and develop family passion Philippe Porcheron bought Château Rose Sainte Croix (Listrac) in 1987.
Approach
Château Marojallia follows a non-certified sustainable approach. The vineyards of the estate have been constantly modernized and improved. The grapes are hand-harvested. 50 percent of the grapes are used to produce Château Marojallia Margaux, and 50 percent are used for Clos Margalaine. The fermentation processes in stainless steel vats followed by a long maceration. The maturation takes place in entirely new oak barrels.
