About

Domaine Bizot

Domaine Bizot is a small winegrower located in Vosne-Romanée. The current winemaker of the Domaine Bizot is Jean-Yves Bizot, whose wines are famous for being rich and matured tasting wines.

The top wines of the domaine are: Echézeaux Grand Cru and Vosne-Romanée Les Jachées. Echézeaux Grand Cru 2016 scored 96, Vosne-Romanée Les Jachées 2017 scored 95, and Vosne-Romanée Les Jachées 2016 scored 94 by the Wine Advocate. Robert Parker comments on Echézeaux Grand Cru 2016: “The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, dark chocolate, bay leaf, spices and peonies. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and immensely concentrated, with satiny, almost melting tannins but such searing intensity and savory nuance that once again the word "pungent" comes to mind, concluding with a fine-grained, mineral finish. It's the most reserved wine in the range and will demand more patience, but its singular style makes it very compelling indeed”.

History

The current winemaker and owner of Domaine Bizot is Jean-Yves Bizot. He studied geology and oenology before he came to work in the estate that was built up by his grandfather.

Since 1993 Jean-Yves Bizot has changed the viticulture approach, added a further hectare at the north end of the Côte, and made separate wine bottling from Vosne-Romanée, Les Jachées. Nowadays Jean-Yves Bizot produces wines from the Vosne-Romanée appellation Les Saules, Pré de la Folie, Colombiéres and Aux Communes.

Approach

Jean-Yves Bizot follows a very minimalist, non-interventionist winemaking approach.

Fermentation is carried out with all their stems, there is no de-stemming or pressing before. There is a little punching down that helps to peel the skin. The fermentation takes place in wooden vats for 14 to 20 days with the low temperatures kept.

The wine is matured in small new French oak barrels from Tonnellerie Rousseau for 15 to 20 months. The amount of added sulfur dioxide is dependable on the wine vintage.

The bottling process is done manually without fining or filtration.
