About
Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret
Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret is a 8 hectares large domaine, with négociant cuvées representing a further 6 hectares. The domaine is located in Monthélie, Burgundy, and is managed by Cataldina Lippo, who farms the vineyards according to a biodynamic approach, but without certification.
Cataldina Lippo’s style is pure and elegant, improving with the years. Indeed, the wines are much less rustic than they once were, the reds delivering an elegant and stylish type of Pinot.
The top wines of the domaine are: Meursault Premier Cru Santenots Blancs, Volnay Premier Cru Champans, and Pommard Premier Cru Chanlins.
The Meursault Premier Cru Santenots Blancs 2017 scored 93+, the Volnay Premier Cru Champans 2017 scored 93, and the Pommard Premier Cru Chanlins 2017 scored 92+ by the Wine Advocate.
While tasting the wines of the domaine, Robert Parker noted: “Offering up notes of yellow orchard fruit, confit citrus, marzipan and subtle hints of petrol, the 2017 Meursault Premier Cru Les Santenots is medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with an envelopingly textural attack, ripe acids and a deep, chewy mid-palate, concluding with a long finish. This premier cru always produces a broad shouldered, ripe expression of Meursault, but it also ages formidably well.”
History
Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret is a 300 years old domaine. The domaine is managed by Cataldina Lippo, the granddaughter of André Porcheret. The domaine has been run by the Monthelie and Douhairet families for a long time. In 1970’s, two sisters, Armande Douhairet and Charlotte Douhairet inherited the domaine. However, they decided to go separately. Armande Douhairet kept her share, while Charlotte Douhairet decided to sell hers.
André Porcheret, an adopted son of Armande Douhairet, started managing winemaking in 1989.
In 2004 Armande Douhairet, a well-known figure in the Burgundian wine industry, passed away. The same year André Porcheret’s granddaughter, Cataldina Lippo, joined the domaine.
In 2014, Vincent Monfort – Cataldina Lippo’s companion – left his native Belgium to settle in Monthélie. Both of them: Vincent Monfort and Cataldina Lippo make wine at the domaine these days.
Approach
Biodynamic since 1993
The domaine has been farmed according to biodynamic principles since 1993 but without certification.
The vineyards are farmed nature-friendly, without the use of chemicals. The harvesting is done manually, at the coolest hours of the day.
There have not been many changes at Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret. The reds are still entirely destemmed, but the stock of barrels has been renewed, and there has been a general fine-tuning. A part of wooden vats has been replaced with stainless steel ones. All tanks are thermoregulated for perfect fermentation control.
On average, the wines age 12 months for the whites and 15 months for the reds in traditional Burgundian barrels. The new barrels vary for vintages but never exceed 30 percent. The wines are bottled at the estate.
