About
Domaine Jacques Cacheux & Fils
Domaine Jacques Cacheux & Fils is a notable producer of sought-after red Burgundy wine. The estate owns 7 hectares of prestigious vineyards located in Vosne-Romanée. The domaine’s viticulture is carried out by the concept of biodynamics.
Currently, the domaine is under the control of Patrice Cacheux - the fourth generation of Cacheux wine producers. The top wine of Domaine Jacques Cacheux & Fils is Echézeaux Grand Cru. Echézeaux Grand Cru 1991 scored 93 and Echézeaux Grand Cru 2017 scored 92 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker described Echézeaux Grand Cru 1991 “The huge framboise-scented bouquet of the 1991 Echezeaux is an attention-grabber. The wine possesses great richness, wonderful precision, and a spectacular, multidimensional personality with layers of flavour and a velvety-textured, ripe, long, concentrated finish. The low yields provided by nature, Cacheaux's non-interventionist policy of no fining or filtering, and the slight increase of new oak, have resulted in wines that are among the best this fine domaine has produced. Stylistically, they resemble those of the excellent Domaine Meo-Camuzet.
I have been an admirer of Cacheux's wines since I first visited him in 1985 while doing research for my book on Burgundy. This estate has never filtered its wines, and in 1991 they made the decision not to fine. What the consumer gets in the bottle is an uncompromised product that reflects what was in the barrel.”
The wines from Domaine Jacques Cacheux & Fils are exquisite, powerful, with the delightful fragrance and texture of silk.
History
The current owner of the domaine is Patrice Cacheux - son of Jacques Cacheux and Lucette Blée. The domaine’s history begins with François Blée, who arrived in Vosne-Romanée in the early 20th century. François Blée was succeeded by his son Charles Blée. Nearly sixty years ago, in 1966, the holdings of Charles Blée were divided between his two daughters: Lucette and Jacqueline Blée, because of their marriage with two brothers - Jacques and René Cacheux. Patrice Cacheux succeeded his parents and now heads Domaine Jacques Cacheux.
Approach
Biodynamic
In the vineyards is implemented the concept of biodynamics; the usage of herbicides, insecticides or anti-rot applications is avoided.
As a rule, Domaine Jacques Cacheux & Fils makes wines from destemmed and crushed grapes that go through a seven-day maceration. After that, natural yeasts launch the process of primary fermentation.
For the premier and grand crus, 100 percent of new oak is used. Before the bottling stage, the wines are racked to the tank. Fining and filtration are not conveyed.
