About
Domaine Joseph Colin
Domaine Joseph Colin is a young, 7 hectares estate located in Saint-Aubin, Burgundy. The winemaker is Joseph Colin, who cultivates his vineyards according to sustainable principles, but without certification.
Joseph Colin is known more as the "mineral" rather than "full-bodied" school of white-wine producers.
The top wines of Domaine Joseph Colin are: Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Cailleret, and Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chenevottes.
The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2019 scored 93-95+, the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Cailleret 2019 scored 94, and the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chenevottes 2019 scored 93 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker comments on the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2019: “Vinified and matured in a single, twice-used barrel, the 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru delivers aromas of pear, white flowers, toasted almonds, peach and smoke. Full-bodied, concentrated and textural, it's muscular and enveloping, with fine depth and a long, chalky finish. Colin intends to bottle this direct from the barrel with the "chèvre à deux becs”.
History
2016
In 2016 Joseph Colin took over some of the family vineyards of Domaine Marc Colin, and founded his own domaine, called Domaine Joseph Colin.
Approach
Sustainable
The vineyards of Domaine Joseph Colin are farmed according to sustainable principles.
The wines are produced from whole-bunched and pressed grapes. After the fermentation no sulphur is added.
The wines are matured for 16 months in large size barrels with little new wood. The wines are bottled under a waning moon.
