About
Domaine Long-Depaquit
Domaine Long-Depaquit is an estate with a long history, situated in Beaune, Burgundy. The holdings consist of 65 hectares of vineyards, including a monopole - Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne. The vineyards are treated according to sustainable practices without having been certified. Nowadays, Domaine Long-Depaquit is owned by Maison Albert Bichot.
The wines are satiny, layered, with a rich flavor and attractive aromas.
The top wines of Domaine Long-Depaquit are Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne, Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos and Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots. The Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne 2017 scored 94+, Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2017 scored 93+ and Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots 2017 scored 92+ by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker described the Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne 2017: “The domaine's emblematic wine, the 2017 Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne, derives from a south/southeast-facing amphitheater, 95% of which is located in Vaudésir and some 5% of which is located in Les Preuses—a parcel that was once owned by the monks of Pontigny. It's showing superbly this year, wafting from the glass with a pure and reserved bouquet of citrus oil and wet stones. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and complete, with a satiny attack, excellent depth and concentration, and a long, incisive finish. Interestingly, its steely plenitude is a world away from Long-Depaquit's Vaudésir and Perreuses.”
History
Domaine Long-Depaquit is owned by Maison Albert Bichot.
The roots of the domaine go back to 1128 when the estate was owned by Abbaye de Pontigny. When the French Revolution began in 1789, Jean Depaquit, a priest of Pontigny, decided to return to civilian life. On the sale of national property, he purchased the vineyards of the Abbaye de Pontigny, including the notable vineyard of La Moutonne. His son, Benjamin Depaquit followed in the footsteps of his father.
As Benjamin Depaquit had no successors, he adopted a certain François-Auguste Long. That led to the origination of the Long-Depaquit family and, consequently, to the new name of the domaine.
The successors of the Long-Depaquit family sold their shares to the Bichots and Drouhins. Though, at present, Domaine Long-Depaquit is the total ownership of Maison Albert Bichot.
Approach
Sustainable
The vineyards of Domaine Long-Depaquit are treated according to sustainable practices, but without certification. Interventions are kept to a minimum. Harvesting is done by machine, but for the vines placed on steep slopes - by hand.
Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne is an exceptional gem of Domaine Long-Depaquit. This wine is fermented and matured in a mix of a stainless steel tank and 1- to 5-year-old barrels. 12 months later, all the wine is racked to the tank and left for the next six months of maturation on lees.
