David’s Croix approach to winemaking is always careful, precise, and endlessly evolving.
Top wines of The Domaine des Croix are: Beaune Grèves Premier Cru, Corton Les Grèves Grand Cru, and Corton La Vigne Au Saint Grand Cru. Beaune Grèves Premier Cru 2020 scored 94-96, Corton Les Grèves Grand Cru 2020 scored 94-96, and Corton La Vigne Au Saint Grand Cru 2015 scored 94-96 by the Wine Advocate.
Rober Parker comments on Beaune Grèves Premier Cru 2020: “The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves is spectacular, and it reveals just what this appellation and its best sites are capable of. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of wild berries, sweet spices, rose petals and blood orange, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and sumptuous, with a layered, multidimensional core of fruit that's girdled by velvety tannins and bright acids. Long and intense, it will merit a special effort to seek out”.
History
2005
Nowadays the domaine is run by David Croix. David Croix hails from Montlouis in the Loire Valley, but he settled in Dijon for his oenology studies. During his study, importer Becky Wasserman hired him as winemaker for the négociant Maison Camille Giroud. The roots of the domaine go back to 2005 when Roger Forbes and some co-investors bought the former Domaine Duchet in Beaune, and entrusted it to the care of David Croix.
Approach
Biodynamic, Organic since 2008
The work in domaine des Croix vineyards has been done according to organic principles since 2008 without certification. Currently David Croix is applying biodynamic practices.
According to the vinification, David Croix always leaves the whole bunches at the bottom of the vat. This process protects the stems from being broken up during the punching down, which could result in bitter tannins.
