Domaine Besson (Chablis)
Domaine Besson is a 20th century estate in Chablis, Burgundy. The winemakers are Camille and Adrien Besson. They cultivate 21 hectares of vineyards. They hold vineyards in Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Chablis Grand Cru.
The wines of the domaine are known for having lively and rich palates.
The top wine of Domaine Besson is Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu. Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu 2014 scored 91 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker comments on the Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu 2014: “The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu had a slight reduction on the nose, opening with scents of greengage, granite and even a faint scent of fresh green asparagus. The palate is fresh on the entry, quite detailed with a keen line of acidity, that asparagus note in the background, but complemented with citrus lemon and fine cold stony notes on the clinical finish. This is an excellent Mont de Milieu from winemaker Camille Besson”.
History
1902
Since 2013 Domaine Besson has been run by the 4th winemaker generation - Camille and Adrien Besson, who succeeded their father Alain Besson.
The roots of the domaine go back to 1902 when Eugène Besson planted a few acres of vines for his personal consumption and transmitted the vineyards’ passion to his son Félix Besson.
In 2000 the Besson family built a new winery and reached today's holding size.
Approach
The work in the vineyard is carried out with the respect to the soil and plants, regular plowing allows deep rooting and promotes a rich and varied biological life.
The grapes are harvested manually.
In order to reveal the character of their unique expression, the team carries out the micro-vinifications according to each climate. Each vat is thermo-regulated for total control of temperatures and therefore of vinification. The settling is done by flotation with nitrogen, allowing a pure expression of the fruit giving fine and elegant wines.
The maturation lasts minimum for 12 months for all wines including their Petit Chablis. The barrels include a little percentage of new oak, in particular, the Chablis - 3 percent, Vaillons, and Montmains - 8 percent.
All the wines are bottled by the end of February and start to sell from the end of March.
