La Chablisienne

About

La Chablisienne

La Chablisienne is a winemakers’ cooperative located in the heart of Chablis, Burgundy. It covers 13 premiers crus and 5 of the 7 grands crus, including the grand cru monopole - Château Grenouilles. The cooperative controls nearly 20 percent of the region’s wine production.

La Chablisienne’s winemaker is Vincent Bartement. His wines are beautifully distinctive and ethereal, with excellent concentration.

Top wines are Chablis Grand Cru Château Grenouilles, Chablis Grand Cru Perreuses and Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos. The Chablis Grand Cru Château Grenouilles 2017 scored 94+, Chablis Grand Cru Perreuses 2017 scored 94 and Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2017 scored 93+ by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Chablis Grand Cru Château Grenouilles 2017: “The 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Château Grenouilles is showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with aromas of lime, lemon oil, crisp green apples, wet stones and a subtle framing of smoky reduction. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a satiny attack, excellent concentration and a bright girdle of structuring acidity. Is this bottling the most underrated wine in Chablis? Certainly, its quality deserves wider recognition.”

History

1923

Vincent Bartement is responsible for the vinification, while Damien Leclerc is responsible for the commercial part.

La Chablisienne's cooperative counts over 300 wine growers as members. There is a constant sharing of knowledge and experience between them.

La Chablisienne's story begins in 1923 when under the leadership of Abbé Balitrand, a number of winegrowers united to go through the economic difficulties of the period. The members supplied La Chablisienne with their wines, and the cooperative was responsible for making the blends and selling them, mainly to wholesalers.

Later, in the mid-1950s, it was decided to deliver the harvest in the form of must. The aim was to gain total control over the winemaking processes and create La Chablisienne's own style.

Approach

Vincent Bartement pays great attention to the process of winemaking to reveal the full richness and complexity of La Chablisienne’s wines.

In the winery, the grapes are pressed, and the must is racked. Alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and maturation take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, but for certain selected wines - in oak barrels.

In order to preserve and reveal the unique qualities of wines, only the best equipment is used.
