About

Domaine Vincent Dampt

Domaine Vincent Dampt is located in Chablis, Burgundy. The winemaker is Vincent Dampt, who farms the 8 hectares of vineyards according to a sustainable approach, being on their way to HVE certification.

Vincent Dampt’s style is characterized by balance, a fine line of acidity and a conservative finish.

The top wines of the domaine are: Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons and Chablis Premier Cru Côte de Léchet.

The Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons 2014 scored 92, and Chablis Premier Cru Côte de Léchet 2012 scored 90 by the Wine Advocate.

When tasting the domaine wines, Robert Parker said: “The 2014 Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons is a huge step up from the 2013 (and both were tasted blind.) Here is another example of a fine, mineral-driven bouquet from this premier cru vineyard: chalk and flint notes permeating the veil of citrus lemon and lending it terroir expression. The palate is fresh and crisp with touches of lime and grapefruit. But it is the animation, the energy here, that is captivating, plus the sustained lightly spiced finish that seals the deal. This is a very well-crafted Chablis Vaillon to savor over the next decade.”

History

The winemaker of Domaine Vincent Dampt is Vincent Dampt, who founded the domaine in 2004.

The Dampt family has a 150 years history of family winemaking. Jean Defaix, Vincent Dampt’s grandfather, started producing wine that became a recognizable Chablis label. Vincent Dampt studied at wine school in Beaune and later had an internship in New Zealand.

In 2002 he joined his father as a winemaker and in 2004, he inherited a couple of plots that let him start his own estate.

Vincent Dampt’s wife, Émilie, joined the estate in 2008. Gradually they managed to grow the total area of their vineyards to 8 hectares.

Approach

Sustainable

Domaine Vincent Dampt is farmed according to a sustainable approach and is on its way to HVE certification. In the vineyards, the work is done with ploughing and organic fertilizers, which help avoid diseases. The vines are planted on two distinct types of terroir - kimmeridgian (giving wines minerality) and portland (can be tasted in soft and fruity wines). Petit Chablis is the only exception, as it is located on Portlandian rock. The vines are more than 40 years old and give meagre yields.

Vincent Dampt vinifies most of his wines in vats, preferring to vinify each terroir separately to bring out the best of their potential: just the fruit and its terroir.
