Domaine Gérard Duplessis

About

Domaine Gérard Duplessis

Domaine Gérard Duplessis is situated in Chablis, Burgundy. The domaine holds 8 hectares of vineyards, which include 20 different plots in Petit-Chablis, Chablis, Premiers Crus and Grands Crus appellations. Lilian Duplessis, the winemaker, has managed the domaine organically. The domaine is certified since 2013.

The wines of the domaine represent minerality and the body of Chablis, and all the aromatic variety of different plots. Their innate complexity comes through with maturity.

Top wines of the domaine are: Chablis Grand Cru les Clos, Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons and Chablis Premier Cru Montmains. The Chablis Grand Cru les Clos 2016 scored 92-94, the Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons 2017 scored 92, the Chablis Premier Cru Montmains 2016 scored 91-93 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker comments on the Chablis Grand Cru les Clos 2016: “The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos has a fresh, quite nervous, finessed bouquet that is much more subtle than the 2015. This demands some coaxing from the glass but it is certainly worth the effort. The palate is very fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity and great salinity that combines well with the subtle spicy thread as it gently fans out on the finish like a Les Clos should, delivering that crescendo. This has great potential.”

Approach

Certified organic since 2013

Domaine Gérard Duplessis has been farmed organically since 2007 and is certified organic since 2013.

Harvesting is mixed - machine and manual harvesting are combined. Synthetic products are not applied. Fermentation is carried out in tanks with the help of indigenous yeasts. After that, 18 months ageing for the premiers crus follows. Approximately 6 months out of 18 the wines spend in wooden barrels. It is done to rotate barrels and keep them in use all year round. Nearly 10 per cent of new wood is bought each year. Sulphur levels are below the recommendations for organic viticulture.
