About
Château de Fleys
Château de Fleys is located in picturesque Fleys, Burgundy. The château holds 29 hectares of vineyards farmed sustainably, certified by HVE since 2018. Béatrice Philippon, Benoît Philippon and Olivier Philippon are the winemakers of the domaine, who diligently work on domaines’ development.
The domaine holds a monopole Chablis Clos du Château.
At the château, fine, mineral wines are made, which are well-structured and concentrated.
The top wines of the château are: Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu Cuvée Vieilles Vignes and Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu. The Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2015 scored 93 and Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu 2014 scored 92 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the The Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2015: “The 2015 Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu Cuvée Vieilles Vignes comes from a parcel of 83-year-old vines that is raised for 16 months in 60% stainless steel and 40% demi-muids. It has a wonderful, expressive bouquet of yellow fruit, flint and a touch of melted wax that feels detailed and transparent. The palate is very well balanced, with a fine thread of acidity that cuts through the lightly honeyed fruit, and a dash of spice enlivening the finish that feels very composed and harmonious. Bravo. This was a real find (and found under blind conditions, incidentally).”
History
Château de Fleys is managed by Béatrice Philippon, Benoît Philippon and Olivier Philippon. They succeeded their father André Philippon, who has been in charge of the domaine since 1988. André Philippon was the one who bought the Château de Fleys - a 17th-century hunting pavilion, where the estate is based.
The château was founded by André Philippon’s grandfather Julien Philippon who came to Fleys from the Morvan in 1868, starting farming vines despite his main occupation as a lumberjack.
Approach
Certified sustainable by HVE since 2018
Château de Fleys’s vineyards are farmed following sustainable principles, certified by HVE since 2018.
The premiers crus are hand-harvested.
The Chablis wines are aged in stainless steel. The Chablis Сuvée L'Incontournable’s ageing process is mixed, with the usage of oak barrels.
