About
Domaine Oudin
Domaine Oudin is a young family estate in Chichée, Chablis, Burgundy. Domaine Oudin holds 10 hectares that are farmed by two winemakers - Nathalie Oudin and Isabelle Oudin, according to the sustainable approach without being certified.
The top wines of Domaine Oudin are: Chablis Premier Cru Vaucoupin, and Chablis Premier Cru Vaugiraut. The Chablis Premier Cru Vaucoupin 2017 scored 93, and the Chablis Premier Cru Vaugiraut 2017 scored 92 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker comments on the Chablis Premier Cru Vaucoupin 2017: “The most serious wine in the portfolio is the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vaucoupin, a tighter-knit, more incisive offering that unwinds in the glass with notes of green apple, orange rind, lemon oil, warm bread and oyster shell. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, tangy and concentrated, with a vibrant, beautifully balanced profile and an unmistakably mineral finish”.
History
Today Domaine Oudin is managed by the 2nd winemaker generation. Nathalie Oudin and Isabelle Oudin succeeded their parents - Jean-Claude Oudin and Christiane Oudin, who founded the domaine.
Approach
Sustainable
Domaine Oudin is farmed according to the sustainable principles, but without certification.
The harvest is picked by machine. The fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts.
The estate makes a special cuvée - from old vines of Les Serres, this cuvée is matured for 24 months.
On Burgundy Report Nathalie Oudin tells about vintage 2016: “The wines are good – at least that’s something positive. We lost one-third from frost, we lost another third from hail, there was mildew and too much rain, then too much dryness – not to forget just a little oïdium and porriture. I really don’t know the last vintage that was so low yielding. Despite a lack of grapes, it was a very long harvest for us, searching out the grapes that remained and then waiting almost a dozen days for the very small grapes that otherwise might earlier have been discarded as verjus but after waiting they were ripe”.
