About

Thiénot

Thiénot is a family owned champagne-producing estate located in Reims, Champagne. The holdings of the estate include 30 hectares of vineyards within Aÿ and in the Côte des Blancs and premier crus in Dizy and Cumières and on the Coteaux in the South of 'Epernay. The Thiénot family owns and manages the estate.

The champagnes of the estate perfectly reflect the finesse, freshness and purity of the fruit, made under the guidance of Nicolas Uriel, the winemaker.

Among the wide range of champagnes, Vigne aux Gamins is considered to be the top.

The Vigne aux Gamins 2006 scored 92 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker's tasting notes on the Vigne aux Gamins Blanc de Blancs Brut 2006: "The 2006 Brut Blanc de Blancs La Vigne aux Gamins offers a clear, fresh nose with wax and buttery aromas. On the palate, this is a rich and powerful yet pure and straight Champagne with brioche flavours, remarkable finesse and tension. It's slightly astringent on the aftertaste, but with food, this should be an excellent choice."

History

1985

Thiénot is a family estate founded in 1985 by Alain Thiénot. Nowadays, Alain Thiénot's children - Garance and Stanislas Thiénot, are in charge, with Nicolas Uriel in the role of the winemaker.

The Thiénot family founded the Arvitis company, which focuses on vine-growing, winemaking, production and distribution. Its holdings include 560 hectares of vineyards, four wineries, four champagne estates, including Thiénot, and three distributing companies.

Approach

Thiénot's vineyards are farmed with respect to the environment. The grape variety is represented by Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, grown on chalky soil. The harvesting is carried out manually by the end of September.

Fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 95 percent, fermentation in wood for 5 percent. For the last 10 vintages, the "jetting" method is applied, where wine displaces oxygen at disgorgement, which provides a low level of sulphites.

For Blanc de Blancs, approximately 45 percent of reserve wines are used for blending.

The average maturation time takes 36 months.
