About
Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur
Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur is an impressive 21 hectares family estate in Vosne-Romanée. The winemaker is Vincent Gros, who makes lovely tasty wines.
The top wine of the domaine is Richebourg Grand Cru. The Richebourg Grand Cru 2009, 2008, and 2002 all scored 95 by the Wine Advocate. Robert Parker comments on Richebourg Grand Cru 2009: “The 2009 Richebourg blossoms in every direction with seemingly endless layers of flavor. An exotic melange of plums, red cherries, flowers and mint starts to take shape as the wine opens up in the glass. There is a pure radiance to the 2009 that is impossible to miss. At the same time, the firm Richebourg tannins keep everything in check. Higher-toned notes develop in the glass, balancing some of the wine’s more virile tendencies. The 2009 remains a bit of a brute and definitely needs further bottle age. This is going to be a fascinating wine to follow. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034”.
History
Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur is managed by Vincent Gros, he succeeded his father Bernard Gros.
The roots of the domaine go back to Gustave and Colette Gros. In the mid-1980s Bernard Gros succeeded his uncle Gustave Gros and replanted the significant part of the estate.
Approach
Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur does not use herbicides. Since Vincent Gros the plots have been ploughed.
The grapes are late-harvested, sorted, and then destemmed with a modern technique - “égrainoir”, which takes out the pips and does not damage the berries. After that, the juice goes into the tank with skins for the maceration. The juice is cooled down for a seven-day pre-ferment maceration. During three weeks fermentation, the juice is punched down and pumped over in the vats.
The Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur profusely uses a high percentage of new oak, all the red wines are matured entirely in new wood barrels.
