About

Domaine Duroché

Domaine Duroché is a popular domaine, located in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy. The vineyards of the domaine cover 8.5 hectares, including various premiers crus and grands crus plots. The winemaking is done by Pierre Duroché, according to the sustainable approach, without certification.

The wines of the domaine are precise and concentrated, with fruity flavours and complexity of aroma, showing great possibilities for longer-term ageing.

Top wines of the domaine are: Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Cuvée Hommage à Philippe, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru, and Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru. The Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Cuvée Hommage à Philippe 2020 scored 98-100, the Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2012 scored 97, and the Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 scored 97 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Cuvée Hommage à Philippe 2020: “The best wine that Duroché has produced to date is the 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru Clos de Bèze Cuvée Hommage à Philippe, a one-off bottling from vines planted in 1920 by Pierre's grandfather. Soaring from the glass with an already complex bouquet of dark berries, liquorice, elderberries, loamy soil, orange rind, black truffle and ineffable carnal nuances, it's full-bodied, seamless and complete, with huge concentration without weight, lively acids and a long, resonant finish. Such is its mid-palate plentitude that its ripe, powdery tannins are almost imperceptible. It's one of the wines of the vintage.”

History

1906

The vineyards of Domaine Duroché have been farmed by Pierre Duroché since 2007, accompanied by his wife Marianne Duroché. He took over the management of the domaine from his father Gilles Duroché.

The domaine was founded in 1906 by Louis Duroché. Louis Duroché’s grandson Philippe Duroché, with his wife Odile Duroché expanded the domaine to 5 hectares. Philippe Duroché’s son Gilles Duroché followed his father and acquired 3.5 more hectares of vineyards.

In 2017, Pierre Duroché and Marianne Duroché set up a négociant business alongside the domaine.

Approach

Sustainable

Domaine Duroché’s vineyards are farmed according to sustainable principles, though without certification. Herbicide, pesticide or anti-rot are not used. The soils are ploughed, anti-mildew and oidium treatments may be used.

Harvesting is done early. Destemmation is selective and depends on the cuvée. During the fermentation, only natural yeasts are used. Usually, fermentation takes 10 to 12 days. The sulphur is used only after the malolactic fermentation. Neither racking, nor fining, or filtering are carried out. Cadus barrels are preferred, with very little new oak. Ageing lasts approximately 12 months.
