Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Côte de Nuits-Villages Les Retraits 2020: “The 2020 Côte de Nuits-Villages Les Retraits wafts from the glass with aromas of plums and raspberries mingled with hints of peony, sweet spices, rose petals and blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, it's layered and concentrated, with lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. It's a brilliant wine that transcends expectations for the appellation.”
History
2002
Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand was founded in 2002 by Jérôme Galeyrand and since that time he has been farming the vineyards himself. Jérôme Galeyrand is not the offspring of the winemaking family and used to work in the food industry before founding the domaine. His winemaking career started in 1996 when he began to work alongside Alain Burguet in the Domaine Alain Burguet and studied viticulture and vinification in Beaune. A few years later he had bought his first plot in Saint Philibert of just 0.05 hectares.
Since that time the vineyards of the domaine have enlarged multiple times and the domaine obtained organic certification, which proves Jérôme Galeyrand’s high devotion to his business.
Approach
Biodynamic, Certified organic
Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand’s vineyards are farmed according to biodynamic and organic approaches, certified organic.
The vineyards are ploughed, no pesticides are used, and the harvesting is done manually.
The reds are destemmed and are aged for 18 to 24 months in oak barrels. The whites are crushed before pressing. Ageing of whites lasts approximately 12 months in oak barrels. A vertical press is used for both colours. Minimum sulphur is used.
