Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2020: “The 2020 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru may even surpass its 2019 predecessor at maturity! Mingling aromas of wild berries and plums with hints of forest floor, rose petals and blood orange, it's full-bodied, concentrated and seamless, with velvety tannins and an elegant, sensual profile, concluding with a long, perfumed finish.”
History
Since 2009, Domaine Henri Magnien has been run by the twelfth-generation winemaker Charles Magnien. Besides, Charles Magnien is the President of the ODG for Gevrey-Chambertin.
The roots of the domaine originated from 1656, but only in 1850 the Magnien family switched to vineyards.
Approach
Organic
The viticulture of Domaine Henri Magnien is cultivated according to organic principles, not certified yet.
For vinification processes, Charles Magnien chooses the wood from the forests of Fontainebleau and Châtillon. Afterwards, the wood for barrels is delivered and made by his favoured cooper Chauvin.
Charles Magnien believes that the percentage of new oak is not so significant as the level of toast and type of wood, as different cuvées need different types of wood.
In 2017 the cellar was extended because of the lack of space.
