The top wines of the domaine are Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Les Cazetiers, and Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Baudes. The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 scored 95+, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Les Cazetiers 2018 93 - 95, and the Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Baudes 2009 scored 93+ by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2009: “The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin is striking, even if it is an infant today. Graceful and weightless through to the finish, the 2009 impresses with its balance, freshness and overall sense of structure. This is far from an easygoing 2009. It will require at least a decade to enter the early part of its drinking window. Here, too the integration of fruit and structure is superb. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.”

History

1947

Domaine Sérafin is managed by Karine Sérafin, and her cousin Frédérique Goulley, who is responsible for the winemaking at the domaine.

The domaine was founded by Stanislaus Sérafin in 1947. His son Christian Sérafin took over the domaine in 1988 and later passed it on to his daughter Karine Sérafin.

Approach

Organic

The viticulture of Domaine Sérafin is organic but not certified yet.

All the activities are done concerning the environment, the soils and the terroir.

Frédérique Goulley avoids weedkillers and fertilizers; they are used only as a matter of urgent necessity and only the organic ones.

In the vineyards, strict pruning, debudding, green harvesting and de-leafing are carried out. Harvesting is manual.

Frédérique Goulley follows in the Christian Sérafin's footsteps in winemaking. The grapes are fully destemmed. For all the grands crus, premiers crus and cuvée Vieilles Vignes 100 percent of new wood is used. The barrels are carefully chosen, prefferably barrels made by François Frères and Taransaud are used. Taransaud is used for its elegance, Frères for its power.
