Domaine Castagnier
Domaine Castagnier is located in Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy. The estate holds 4 hectares of vines farmed according to the biodynamic concept, though not certified yet.

The Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2013 scored 93, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2014 scored 91, and the Chambolle-Musigny Village 2015 scored 89 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Morey-Saint-Denis Grand Cru Clos de la Roche 2013: “Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru from Castaignier has a clean and pure bouquet. There is lovely definition here with seamlessly integrated oak, allowing those raspberry, crushed strawberry and cold stone scents to flourish. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red cherry and strawberry fruit, saturated tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, harmonious and svelte with an elegant but intense finish that does not leave you feeling short changed. Bon vin! Tasted September 2016.”
History
Since 2020, the fifth-generation vigneron, Jérôme Castagnier, has been managing Domaine Castagnier.
The domaine was founded by Jules Séguin. However, it was Gilbert Vadey, Jérôme Castagnier's grandfather, who developed the domaine and put it on the map.
Gilbert Vadey's daughter married Guy Castagnier, who joined the estate in 1975. Since 2004 the wines have been bottled as Domaine Castagnier. A new cellar was built in 2006, and extended in 2020.
In 2004 Jérôme Castagnier decided to join his father, Guy Castagnier, and his grandfather, Gilbert Vadey, to follow in their footsteps. In 2007, Jérôme Castagnier started also a négociant business.
Approach
Biodynamic
The vineyards of Domaine Castagnier are farmed following the biodynamic concept and environmentally-friendly techniques, though not certified yet.
Depending on the vintage, a certain percentage of whole bunches is used for vinification. If the weather conditions are complicated during the year, the grapes are 100 percent destemmed.
Maturation lasts for 18 months and takes place in oak barrels. Jérôme Castagnier pays a lot of attention to the origin of the barrels - they are chosen carefully, following the needs of particular wines.
