About

Domaine Chantal Remy

Domaine Chantal Remy is a family-owned domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy. Florian Remy and Chantal Remy farm the 1.5 hectares of vineyards according to the sustainable approach, but without certification yet.

Florian Remy and Chantal Remy's wines are elegant and complex, with enough understated power.

The top wines of the domaine are: Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Chambertin Grand Cru, and Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. The Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 scored 96, the Chambertin Grand Cru 2012 scored 94 - 96, and the Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2012 scored 94 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker's tasting notes on the Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014: "Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a showy bouquet that manages to retain fine delineation and poise, very pure with black plum intermingling with cranberry and pomegranate scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, good depth and cohesion with a saline, structured finished that manages to reinforce its grand cru status. When Remy's wines hit the spot they are an absolute joy to behold. This is a joy to behold, a wine that surpassed all my expectations."

History

Florian Remy and Chantal Remy are the current winemakers at Domaine Chantal Remy.

The domaine was founded in the first half of the 19th century. The primary name was Domaine Louis Remy, which was located in a lovely building on the Place du Monument in the middle of Morey-Saint-Denis. In the same building, the family wine business was kickstarted back in 1820.

When Louis passed away in 1982, Marie-Louise, Chantal Remy's mother, became in charge. Chantal Remy, a skilled oenologist, had helped with the vintages from 1985 but joined the domaine full-time only since 1988.

When Marie-Louise passed away in 2008, there were three successors. After the division of the small estate in 2009, Chantal Remy was left with just 1.5 hectares, losing all the village wines, but left with all the grand crus. Chantal Remy changed the name of the domaine to her own. She has handed over vinification to her son, Florian Remy. They have continued the tradition of making delicate, not overly powerful wines.

Approach

Sustainable

The vineyards of Domaine Chantal Remy are farmed according to the non-certified sustainable approach.

Florian Remy and Chantal Remy take great care of the vineyards. The horse does the ploughing; the manual harvesting takes place late.

The 1940s press is still used in production—the wine ages for 20 to 22 months in up to 30 percent of new oak. The wines are bottled without filtration.
