The Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Hameau de Blagny 2019 scored 92, the Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Saints Jacques 2018 scored 90+, the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Les Valançons 2018 scored 90 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Hameau de Blagny 2019: “The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Hameau de Blagny wafts from the glass with scents of citrus zest, white flowers, crisp orchard fruit and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, its enveloping attack segues into a structured mid-palate and chalky finish. Cruchandeau's decision to use no new oak for this cuvée beginning in 2019 is clearly paying dividends, as it's the best white I've tasted from him to date.”

History

2003

Domaine Julien Cruchandeau has been founded by Julien Cruchandeau in 2003.

In 2000 he took a course in oenology and viticulture in Beaune. Since 2001, he had been the estate manager and master blender at the Domaine France Lechenault in Bouzeron.

In 2002 Julien Cruchandeau was mentioned in the Guide Hachette, and later in 2005 he was awarded first prize at the Concours des vins la Côte Chalonnaise.

After that Julien Cruchandeau decided to start his own domaine. So, he bought his first vines in 2003 in Bouzeron, along with his first winemaking equipment. In a few years, Julien Cruchandeau purchased a house in Chaux village, with large cellars and vat room.

In 2010 Julien Cruchandeau, together with the investors, acquired a parcel on Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Saints Jacques, and extended his estate from Nuits-Saint-Georges to Savigny-les-Beaune.

The vineyards of the domaine are either owned or leased, with some négociant purchases from 2020.

Approach

Organic

Domaine Julien Cruchandeau is managed according to the organic approach with certification underway. Sustainable practices are also used.

The harvesting is done late, manually. Fermentation is done with indigenous yeasts. The whites are aged on the lees in tanks. The reds are partly destemmed and vinified without punching down. Ageing of the reds is done in oak barrels.

Maturation lasts for 8 to 18 months, depending on the vintage.
