Domaine Bertrand & Axelle Machard de Gramont is located in a small village Curtil-Vergy in Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. The vineyards of the domaine cover 6 hectares mostly in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée appellations. Axelle Marchard de Gramont is the winemaker of the domaine, who works under organic certification.

The wines of the domaine are known for their silky and intense texture, fruity flavours and complex aromas.

The top wines of the domaine are: Pommard Premier Cru Clos Blanc, Beaune Premier Cru Les Chouacheux and Nuits Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Damodes. The Pommard Premier Cru Clos Blanc 1985 scored 92, the Beaune Premier Cru Les Chouacheux 1990 scored 90 and the Nuits Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Damodes 1988 scored 90 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’ tasting notes on the Pommard Premier Cru Clos Blanc 1985: “At the summit of quality is Gramont's Pommard Le Clos Blanc, which produces a wine from a well-placed Premier Cru vineyard next to the famous Les Grands Epenots. The 1985, produced from vines that are between 50 and 70 years old, is packed with ripe cherry fruit, and has a magnificent bouquet of toasty oak and grilled almonds. Sensationally concentrated on the palate, this unctuous, deep wine is a privilege to drink. It should be at its best between now and 1995. I was enchanted with the quality of the 1985s made here. The wine has a wonderful deep colour, and is bursting with supple, rich fruit, and yet also has the requisite structure to age through the decade of the nineties. Gramont keeps 50% of the stems in the fermentation and uses 30 percent new oak.”

Domaine Bertrand & Axelle Machard de Gramont has been managed by Axelle Machard de Gramont since 2004. Axelle Machard de Gramont succeeded her father Bertrand Machard de Gramont, who founded the domaine in 1983. Bertrand Machard de Gramont used to work with his brothers in the family domaine but after the marriage of one of the brothers - Xavier Machard de Gramont, their family domaine was split into three different domaines.

The winemaking of the domaine is done in premises shared with Yves Chaley.

Domaine Bertrand & Axelle Machard de Gramont is farmed organically under organic certification. After Axelle Machard de Gramont took over the domaine, she stopped using herbicides and chemical treatments.

The grapes are pressed in whole bunches. The wines of the domaine spend 12 to 14 months in oak barrels and then an additional six months in tank. Neither fining nor filtration is done before bottling.
