About

Domaine Etienne Sauzet

Domaine Etienne Sauzet is located in Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy. The holdings of the domaine consist of 15 hectares of vines farmed organically since 2006 and following the biodynamic concept since 2010, certified in 2013.

The winemaker in charge is Emilie Boudot, whose wines possess breathtaking textural elegance and silkiness - pure, velvety and powerful.

The top wines of the domaine are Le Montrachet Grand Cru, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru and Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru. The Le Montrachet Grand Cru 2007 scored 97, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2017 scored 96, and the Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 scored 96 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Le Montrachet Grand Cru 2007: “Boudot’s 2007 Montrachet represents juice of 50-year-old vines that he buys and raises, and I wonder whether to consider the sensational results more a tribute to the inherent quality of this site or to the degree of control he is able to exercise. Musk, daffodil, honeysuckle, lily, nut oils, and brown spices make for a head-turning aromatic display and ally themselves to succulent peach and Persian melon on a silken, palpably thick and dense, yet elegantly-expressive, energy-charged palate. For sheer length, too, this perfectly-proportional wine edges out even the Chevalier-Montrachet. I’m so used to it being the other way around in instances where these two sites can be directly compared that this demonstration of quality amazes me, even allowing for a centuries-long tradition of hype. This ought to be worth following for more than a decade.”

History

1975

Domaine Etienne Sauzet is managed by Gérard Boudot's daughter Emilie Boudot and her husband, Benoît Riffault.

The domaine was founded by Etienne Sauzet, who was the vigneron in charge till 1975. His grandson-in-law, Gérard Boudot, succeeded him. Though, in 1991 the legacy of Etienne Sauzet was split between his three grandchildren, one of which, Jean-Marc Boillot, decided to take out his share of the vineyards.

The wines are produced by SARL Sauzet. The company buys the grapes from three family companies: the original Sauzet vineyards, subsequently acquired by Gérard Boudot, and those lately purchased by Emilie Boudot and Benoît Riffault, and two other producers.
