Domaine Armelle & Bernard Rion is one of the most outstanding domaines in Vosne-Romanée. The current winemaker is Alice Rion, who inserts her love and passion in winemaking.

Top wines of the domaine are: Clos Vougeot and Nuits Saint-Georges Premier Cru Aux Murgers. Clos Vougeot 1988 scored 92, and 1987 scored 90; Nuits Saint-Georges Premier Cru Aux Murgers 1987 scored 90 by the Wine Advocate. Robert Parker comments on Clos Vougeot 1988: “The spectacular Clos Vougeot is so crammed with rich red and black fruits that it should turn out to be one of the great wines of the vintage when it reaches full maturity in 6-9 years. It is a splendid wine, and clearly something special. I hope consumers can find it”.

Since 2006 Alice Rion has been footsteping her parents, Armelle and Bernard Rion. In 2015 the oldest Alice’s sister - Nelly and in 2018 Melissa joined the family estate. Nowadays Bernard continues to take an eye on the work in the domaine and transmits his knowledge to his daughters.

The roots of the domaine go back to 1986 when Pierre Rion acquired several plots.

The uniqueness of The Domaine Armelle & Bernard Rion consists in the possession of a high proportion of very old vines up to a century old.

The grapes are sorted in the vineyards, destemmed, then put into the vats, and punched down by hand.

The wines are matured in 20 percent new wood barrels for the generic wines, 40 percent new wood barrels for village wines, 60 percent are used for premiers crus, and 100 percent for grands crus.
