The Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Beaumonts 2016 scored 96-98, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Cros Parantoux 2012 scored 96-98, and Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Beaux Monts 2012 scored 96-98 by the Wine Advocate. Robert Parker comments on Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Beaumonts 2016: “The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Beaumonts was only slightly touched by the frost, and Emmanuel described it as his “favorite” in his cellar. I concur. It has a seductive red cherry, cranberry and wild strawberry-scented bouquet that is beautifully integrated with the new oak. There is genuine power and intensity here. The palate is marked by filigree tannin, a perfect line of acidity and immense precision on the finish. It is the kind of wine that makes you go starry-eyed, to wit, the best Beaumonts that I have tasted from barrel in 2016. Magnifique!”.

History

Nowadays the Domaine Emmanuel Rouget is run by one of the greatest winemakers in Burgundy - Emmanuel Rouget. The current owner with the help of his sons, Nicolas and Guillaume, makes fabulous wines for the label of Domaine Emmanuel Rouget and his uncle’s label - Henri Jayer.

The roots of the domaine go back to Henri Jayer, the owner of the Domaine Henri Jayer, having two daughters not interested in winemaking, he left the vineyards to his talented nephew - Emmanuel Rouget. By 1996 Emmanuel Rouget was producing wines from the vineyards of Henri Jayer and two other uncles – the esteemed Lucien and Georges Jayer – as well from the vineyards of Michelin star chef Jean Crottet. Over the years, Henri Jayer gave up more and more vines to his nephew. In 2001, following his retirement, all of his vines went under the control of Emmanuel Rouget, including the Georges' Jayer vines.

Approach

Organic without certification

The vineyards of domaine Emmanuel Rouget are farmed according to the organic concepts. Since Emmanuel’s time, not much has changed. The grapes are destemmed just as Henri Jayer did, and the wines are fermented in concrete vats before maturation in barrels. The wines are mature for 20 months before being bottled.
