Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru 2016 are: “The 2016 Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru was showing just a touch of reduction on the nose. There is good fruit intensity here although the new oak will need time to be subsumed (two-thirds new). The palate is medium-bodied with impressive density and focus, fine tannin and the 25 percent whole cluster fruit very well assimilated. There is a subtle oyster shell note that just lingers on the aftertaste, completing what is the standout offering from Marchand-Tawse this year.”.

History

1919

In 2003 Sabine Mollard joined the family estate. In 2006 her father - Bernard Mollard retired, but he continues to participate in domaine’s life.

The roots of Domaine Marc Morey & Fils go back to 1919. It was Fernand Morey who, on his return from World War I gave the start to Domaine Morey & Fils. He had 2 hectares of vineyards inherited from his father. From the 1930s Fernand Morey was bottling his wines and expanding the property. In 1944, his son Marc Morey joined him, the estate then took the name of Domaine Fernand Morey & Fils. After the death of Fernand Morey, Marc Morey inherited the domaine.

Marc Morey developed the estate, in particular, built a large building on 3 floors: two vaulted cellars, a labeling room, offices and a dining room for the pickers. In 1977, Marc installed his daughter Marie-Josèphe and his son-in-law Bernard Mollard on the estate. The estate then takes the name of Domaine Marc Morey & Fils.

In 1997, Bernard created a small trading company: SARL Domaine Marc Morey, which buys grape must and ages its wines in a cellar independent of the estate, which completes the wine list.

In 2002, the estate grew even further with the construction of the storage cellar under the courtyard of the farm; it is customary to say that "in this area each generation has built its cellar".

Approach

Sustainable

Current winemaker is Sabine Mollard, who farms the vines according to the sustainable approach, without certificate. Respect for the environment is an important element to take into consideration. The vines are pruned in Guyot simple or Cordon de Royat. The soil is worked throughout the year.

The vinification is flexible, adapted to each vintage. The maturation on the lees lasts 10 months for the white wines and 15 months for the red wines with 25 to 30 percent new wood.

The filtrations are gentle and depend on the clarity of the wines.
