The Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru La Grande Rue 2013 scored 97, Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Les Grand Echézeaux 2014 scored 95-97 and Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru La Grande Rue Cuvée 1959 2015 scored 94-96 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru La Grande Rue 2013: “Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 La Grande Rue Grand Cru has a backward and broody bouquet, very complex with hints of woodland, damp earth and fern filtering through the tightly wound red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple and very fine, almost filigree tannins. The acidity is beautifully judged here -- very focused and refined, seamless towards the sophisticated finish. This is one of the best vintages of La Grand Rue that I have tasted, which is a considerable achievement given that this was not an exemplary growing season. Tasted September 2016.”
History
1933
Since 2006, Domaine Nicole Lamarche has been run by Nicole Lamarche, who is responsible for the winemaking.
Domaine Nicole Lamarche is one of the oldest domaines of Vosne-Romanée. Its history goes back to the late 19th century, when the ancestors of the Lamarche family planted the first vines. The domaine was founded in 1933 by Henri Lamarche.
Domaine Nicole Lamarche owns a unique grand cru monopole: La Grande Rue, one of the four grand cru monopoles of Vosne-Romanée. An interesting fact: the La Grande Rue vineyard could have been ranked as Grand Cru Classé in 1933, but the owner postponed it, perhaps, because of the high tax burden. Only in 1992, the vineyard was promoted.
Approach
Certified organic since 2010
The viticulture of Domaine Nicole Lamarche is converted to organic principles and certified in 2010.
In the vineyards, the grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted. Then they are carefully taken to the winery in small crates in order to avoid berries being crushed and oxidizing prematurely.
In the winery, the grapes are partially or totally destemmed, without crushing conveyed. The juice extraction is carried out with a light hand. After that, the juice is transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel vats or barrels. Nicole Lamarche avoids chaptalization during fermentation as much as possible.
Maturation lasts for 14 to 20 months. The new wood barrels are used carefully: from 20 to 30 percent for the premiers crus, 30 to 40 percent - for the grands crus and 50 percent for La Grande Rue.
The wines are bottled without any fining or filtering.
In 2010, the domaine's cellar was renovated with a new gravity-fed cuverie and upgraded equipment.
