About

Domaine Robert Sirugue

Domaine Robert Sirugue is one of the most prestigious domaines run by the Sirugue family. The estate holds 12 hectares in Vosne-Romanée. The wines of the family Sirugue are well-known for being good-balanced and tannic, in particular Robert Sirque's is super refined.

Top wines of the domaine are: Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru and Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Petits Monts. Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru 1985 and 1983 scored 90, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Petits Monts 1991 scored 89 by the Wine Advocate. Robert Parker comments on Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru 1985: "The Grands Echezeaux was deep ruby in color with a ripe, rich, perfumed bouquet of berry fruit, spicy new oak, and flowers. It is a rich, well-structured, and delineated wine that makes a considerable impression on the palate. It should be fully mature around 1991-1992, but will last 5 to 7 years thereafter".

History

Nowadays, the domaine is run by the fourth generation of the Sirugue family - Marie-France, and Jean-Louis, along with Jean Louis’s wife Catherine and son Arnaud.

The roots of the domaine go back to the Bissey family from Flagey-Échézeaux. Mademoiselle Bisey married Sirgue, and whose son Robert Sirgue founded the Domaine Robert Sirgue during the 1960s to 1970s.

Approach

The work in the vineyards is done manually, and brought to the cellar in small containers. Then the grapes are selected on a sorting table.

The speciality of the approach of the Domaine Robert Sirgue is a careful extraction at the end of the fermentation, which makes the wines super refined. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wines are matured and bottled without clarification or filtering.
