History
1894
Since 2013, Domaine Maurice Charleux & Fils is managed by Vincent Charleux.
The domaine has been passed on from father to son throughout four generations and has gradually been enlarged from 2 to 12 hectares of vines in the course of time.
The roots go back to Ferdinand Charleux, Vincent Charleux's great-grandfather. He founded the domaine in 1894, owning 0.6 hectares of vines. In 1924, the domaine was succeded by his son Joseph Charleux. In 1970, Maurice Charleux took over the 8-hectares estate and, in 1999, was joined by his son, Vincent Charleux.
Approach
Sustainable
The viticulture of Domaine Maurice Charleux & Fils is sustainable, though not certified yet.
The vines are grassed in order to prevent soil erosion. The usage of phytosanitary products is minimal.
Yields are controlled by pruning, disbudding, and green harvesting. Harvesting is done by hand.
In the winery, the grapes are destemmed and fermented for nearly 14 days on ingenious yeasts and temperature control; the duration depends on the vintage. In addition, maceration with gentle pumping over and punching down is conveyed. Maturation lasts from 10 to 12 months with a small amount of new oak.
