Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Santenay Clos de la Confrérie Cuvée Prestige 1990 are: “An outstanding wine, the cassis liqueur and blackberry jam-scented 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques reveals a medium-bodied personality crammed with syrupy black cherries, crisp red currants, and spices. Exhibiting admirable depth and an excellent structure, this appears to be the style of wine that will close down for a few years before roaring back. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015. “.
History
Nowadays Domaine Justin Girardin is managed by Girardin's inheritor - Justin Girardin, who took over from Jacques Girardin in 2017. Along with Domaine Justin Girardin vineyards, Justin Girardin also succeeded some from his mother's side - the Olivier family. During his reign, Justin Girardin has already begun to add some grapes bought in from appellations further afield and from premiers crus Chassagne-Montrachet.
Approach
Biodynamic
Domaine Justin Girardin is farmed according to the biodynamic concept, without certificate. All the work in the vineyard is done according to the lunar calendar.
The red wine is produced from mostly destemmed grapes. The juice is pumped over during the vinification. There is no punching down. The wines are matured for 12 months in barrels with 20 to 25 percent of new wood and an extra 6 months in the tank.
