Domaine du Meix-Foulot

Domaine du Meix-Foulot is located in Mercurey, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy. The holdings of the domaine include 20 hectares of vineyards, which are mostly planted with Pinot Noir and only 10 percent of Chardonnays. The wines of the domaine are marked with pure fruit expression and show perfect ageing capability.

The top wines of the domaine are: Mercurey Premier Cru Clos du Château de Montaigu, Mercurey Premier Cru Les Veleys and Mercurey Premier Cru Les Saumonts. The Mercurey Premier Cru Clos du Château de Montaigu 2019 scored 93, the Mercurey Premier Cru Les Veleys 2019 scored 92 and the Mercurey Premier Cru Les Saumonts 2019 scored 91 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Mercurey Premier Cru Clos du Château de Montaigu 2019: “Elegant and complete, the 2019 Mercurey Premier Cru Clos du Château de Montaigu exhibits aromas of cassis, wild berries and sweet soil tones, framed by a deft touch of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and charming, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it concludes with a long finish. Unusually giving out of the gates, it's already drinking well.”

History

Domaine du Meix-Foulot has been managed by Agnès Dewé de Launay since 1996. The domaine has been controlled by the de Launay family for multiple generations. Agnès Dewé de Launay’s father - Paul de Launay took over the domaine in 1956 and was the family pioneer to bottle a large percentage of the wine produced at the domaine. Agnès Dewé de Launay’s grandmother comes from the famous de Suremain family.

The first vintage exported to USA has been already in 1979.

Approach

Domaine du Meix-Foulot is farmed with great respect to terroirs: soils are enriched environmentally friendly, and the vinification process is done with low intervention. Agnès Dewé de Launay, the winemaker, prefers late manual harvesting. Sorting is also done by hand.

The reds are completely destemmed. Maceration lasts up to 4 weeks. The new wood is limited to 30 percent. The bottling is mostly done in December, after approximately 15 months of ageing.
