Domaine du Clos Salomon is located in Givry, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy. The vineyards contain a historic monopole of 6.98 hectares - Givry Clos Salamon and two additional plots of Chardonnay: approximately 2 hectares in Montagny and 0.4 hectares La Grande Berge in Givry Premier Cru. Ludovic du Gardin is the current winemaker of the domaine who farms the vineyards organically, without certification.

The wines of the domaine are well-balanced, fruity-flavoured and show a firm and tannic structure.

The top wines of the domaine are: Givry Premier Cru Clos Salomon and Givry Premier Cru La Grande Berge. The Givry Premier Cru Clos Salomon 2016 scored 91 and the Givry Premier Cru La Grande Berge 2017 scored 90+ by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Givry Premier Cru Clos Salomon 2016: “The 2016 Givry Premier Cru Clos Salomon is a success, wafting from the glass with notes of ripe raspberries and plums that mingle with notions of cocoa and spice. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with nice concentration and chewy substance, framed by fine tannins and juicy acids. After the richer and more sun-kissed 2015, this represents a return to a more classic profile.”

Domaine du Clos Salomon has been farmed by Ludovic du Gardin since 1990. He took over the domaine from his mother Jacqueline du Gardin, who ran the domaine alone from 1977 to 1990. Since 1997 the domaine is owned by EARL du Clos Salomon, co-owned by Ludovic du Gardin and Fabrice Perrotta, who left the domaine in 2015.

The domaine was founded in the 13th century and bears the name of the first owner, who sold wine to the Pope in Avignon in 1375. In 1558 the ownership of Domaine du Clos Salomon passed to the current owners - the du Gardins.

Domaine du Clos Salomon is farmed organically, though not certified.

The harvesting is done in small trays. The reds are destemmed before the pre-maceration. Vinification and ageing are done in oak barrels for approximately 12 months.
