Domaine Belleville

Domaine Belleville is Rully-based domaine in the Côte Chalonnaise subregion of Burgundy. The vineyards of the domaine are spread within the few appellations from Gevrey-Chambertin to Mercurey, covering 18 hectares. Charles Nebout, the current winemaker, farms the vineyards organically, certified since 2021.

The wines of the domaine are known for their elegance, fruity flavours and rich aromas.

The top wines of the domaine are: Rully Premier Cru La Pucelle, Mercurey Premier Cru Clos l’Evêque and Rully Premier Cru Les Cloux. On JMIB the Rully Premier Cru La Pucelle 2020 scored 90-92, Mercurey Premier Cru Clos l’Evêque 2019 scored 90 and Rully Premier Cru Les Cloux 2019 scored 90.

Jasper Morris’s tasting notes on the Rully Premier Cru La Pucelle 2020: “An east-facing vineyard which has picked up the sun less than Rabourcé. Pale clear lemon yellow. Greater finesse to the nose. There is more elegance and more tension at the finish, with apples as if picked a little earlier in their ripening, some citrus, a long elegant finish. Very good indeed.”

History

Domaine Belleville is managed by the vigneron Charles Nebout.

The history of the domaine goes back to the beginning of the 20th century and it is named after the family who was that time's owners. The Belleville family were large producers with their 45-hectates-owned vineyards but had to sell-off everything because of financial issues.

In the 2000s the domaine was sold to a Swiss purchaser – the Dumont family. They invested in the vineyards and hired a young winemaker - Charles Nebout in 2011.

In 2017 the domaine was again sold to an American couple – Mark Nunnelly and Denise Dupré. They are also the owners of Leclerc Briant in Champagne and Château de la Commaraine in Pommard.

Charles Nebout continued his work at the domaine after the owners change.

Approach

Certified organic since 2021

The vineyards of the Domaine Belleville are farmed organically, with certification obtained in 2021.

The harvesting is done manually into 12 kg cases. The grapes move exclusively by gravity. The reds are destalked, though some experiments may be conducted. Low sulphur is applied during élevage.

Maturation lasts approximately from 10 to 14 months with a maximum 25 percent of new wood for the whites and 30 percent for the reds.
