Château de Chamilly is located in Chamilly, in Côte Chalonnaise of Burgundy. The holdings of the domaine include 26 hectares of vineyards in Mercurey, Montagny and Côte Chalonnaise. Xavier Desfontaine and Arnaud Desfontaine farm their vineyards according to the organic approach, certified. The domaine holds a monopole Mercurey Clos la Perrière.

The wines of the domaine are elegant and show rich fruity notes and perfect aromas.

The top wine of the domaine is Montagny les Bassets. The Montagny les Bassets 2012 scored 87.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Montagny les Bassets 2012: “The 2012 Montagny Les Bassets has a fresh nose with light, dewy green apple and cold stone. The palate is well-balanced with a palpable minerality that leads to a taut marine finish. Fine. Drink now-2017.”

Château de Chamilly has been farmed by brothers Xavier Desfontaine and Arnaud Desfontaine since 2007. They succeeded their mother Véronique Desfontaine.

Desfontaines have been winegrowers and farmers for 12 generations. The château was built in the 17th century and the Desfontaines has been owning it since the 19th century.

In 1970 Louis Desfontaine - Xavier Desfontaine’s and Arnaud Desfontaine’s father gave up arable and livestock farming and processed to winemaking. In 1981 Louis Desfontaine married Véronique Desfontaine. They managed the domaine together until 1999. Later Véronique Desfontaine took over the domaine, until their sons joined the domaine.

The wines of the domaine may also be found under the label Domaine Desfontaine Frères. The domaine also took over the former production of Château de Cary Potet.

Château de Chamilly’s vineyards are certified organic.
