About

Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial

Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is a 20 hectares large domaine in Rully, Burgundy. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is in charge of the winemaking. The vineyards are farmed according to certified organic principles. The Domaine was certified twice by AB: in 2009 and 2021.

Vincent Dureuil-Janthial's wines are superb in both colours. Textural but incisive whites and perfumed, supple reds.

The top wines of the domaine are: Rully Premier Cru Meix Cadot Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Rully Premier Cru Grésigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, and Rully en Guesnes Cuvée Vieilles Vignes.

The Rully Premier Cru Meix Cadot Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2017 scored 96, the Rully Premier Cru Grésigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2017 scored 94+, and the Rully en Guesnes Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2019 scored 93 - 95 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker's tasting notes on the Rully Premier Cru Meix Cadot Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2017: "I hadn't revisited the 2017 Rully Premier Cru Meix Cadot Vieilles Vignes since I last reviewed it in these pages, and I was delighted to find it showing so well. The wine has shut down a little in bottle but unwinds in the glass to reveal scents of Anjou pear, white flowers, lemon curd, vanilla pod and toasted almonds. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, its textural and enveloping attack segueing into a taut, chiseled mid-palate, underpinned by tangy acids and framed by chalky structuring extract. This is a touch more introverted than the 2018 and 2019, but I suspect it will prove the greatest of this extraordinary trio with extended bottle age. The 2017 was picked on September 6."

History

Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is the winemaker of Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial.

Winemaking has been a family business for many generations. However, Vincent Dureuil-Janthial's father was to start bottling domaine wines. Today Vincent Dureuil-Janthial and his wife Céline keep extending the vineyards. They took over the family estate in 1994.

The domaine was certified organic for the first time in 2009. However, it has lost accreditation due to the complicated 2016 season and has reapplied for AB certification in 2018. AB confirmed the second certification in 2021.

Approach

Certified organic since 2009 and 2021

The vineyards of Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial are farmed according to certified organic principles. The latest AB certification took place in 2021.

Vincent Dureuil-Janthial follows Guyot and Guyot-Poussard's method in pruning and does all the work in the vineyards with much respect to the terroir.

The white grapes are picked into the small boxes, then directly pressed for a three-hour cycle, non-sulphured at first. Settled and then fermented in barrel with stirring only if the fermentation shows signs of being drawn out. They spend 12 months in barrel, with 25 percent new oak in most cases. Racking is done according to the lunar calendar. The wine is ageing in stainless steel vats before bottling during winter.

The red grapes are mostly destemmed - but this depends on the vineyard and vintage. The destemming is done manually. The juice is given a 10-day cold soak at 10℃. The reds are aged in oak for a year with 30 percent new wood before bottling in February or March, then kept for a few months to blend in a tank before bottling the following January.
