Domaine Philippe Gavignet

Domaine Philippe Gavignet is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges and covers 14 hectares of vineyards, comprising 16 different appellations. The estate has been certified High Environmental Value level 3, which reflects the organic approach to the vineyards by the winemaker of the domaine - Philippe Gavignet.

The top wines of the domaine are: Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Pruliers, Nuits Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes and Nuit Saint-Georges Les Argillats. Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Pruliers 2013 scored 90-92, Nuits Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes 2013 scored 90-92, Nuit Saint-Georges Les Argillats 2013 scored 89-90 be The Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker commented on Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Pruliers 2013: “The 2013 Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru les Pruliers perhaps has the most austere and standoffish nose of the premier crus out of barrel. The fruit, blackberry and boysenberry, is there but it is hiding behind the corner. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannins, citrus-fresh dark berry fruit, hints of marmalade and orange rind leading to a nicely structured and quite persistent finish. Excellent.”

History

Today's winemaker is Philippe Gavignet. His children - Benoîte Gavignet and Elodie Gavignet are the 5th generation integrated with the family business. Philippe Gavignet, himself, joined the business in 1979 but became fully in charge of the estate only in 1992, after his father’s retirement. His father Michel Gavignet and his grandfather Gabriel Gavignet are the predecessors of the current successful business.

Approach

Certified sustainable level 3 by HVE

The vineyards are cultivated according to High Environmental Value level 3 certification. For a few decades domaine Philippe Gavignet has practiced reasoned grape harvesting and produced healthy grapes, preserving the natural environment by limiting the use of harmful products. The grapes are harvested by hand. After the harvesting the grapes pass to a vibrating table and then a sorting table; a deseeder separates the seeds from the berries. The vinification starts with a cold maceration in stainless steel vats, after that the aging phase in French oak barrels begins and lasts from 10 to 18 months. Tannins control is conducted. Bottling is carried out on the lunar calendar.
