About
Domaine Sophie Cinier
Domaine Sophie Cinier is a tiny domaine located in Fuissé, in the Mâconnais subregion of Burgundy. The vineyards of the domaine cover 3.5 hectares of mostly white wines. Sophie Cinier farms her vineyards organically, without certification.
The wines of the domaine are marked with accomplished well-balanced wines.
The top wine of the domaine is Macon Villages. The Macon Villages 2013 scored 89 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Macon Villages 2013: “The 2013 Mâcon Villages comes from just 0.3-hectares of vine cropped at 40 hectoliters per hectare, undergoing full malolactic and matured for six months in stainless steel. It has a well-composed bouquet that is nicely detailed – touches of citrus lemon, dried apricot and yellow flowers gradually unfurling in the glass. The palate is clean and fresh, a little honey on the entry building toward a satisfying, tropical-fruit driven finish that does not betray its roots. This deserves a round of applause.”
History
1941
Domaine Sophie Cinier is managed by Sophie Cinier. She took over her family domaine in 2000, intending to sell the grapes, but she has started making her own wine since 2005.
Sophie Cinier’s mother’s side of the family has been involved in wine production in Fuissé since the time of her grandfather. Sophie Cinier’s grandfather planted the domaine’s vines in 1941.
Approach
Organic
Domaine Sophie Cinier’s vineyards are farmed organically, not certified.
Generic wines are matured for 9 months in tanks. Other appellations are matured in old oak barrels for a year before bottling. The top cuvées spend 21 months in barrels and 2 months in tanks. Steering on lees is not conducted.
Older and younger cuvées are vinified separately. For some bottlings, grapes are bought from the négociants.
