About

Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud

Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud is a 12 hectares domaine in Solutré, Mâconnais, Burgundy. Guillaume Renaud along with his sister, Amandine Renaud, are the winemakers of the domaine and farm its vineyards according to certified organic principles.

Guillaume Renaud’s wines are fine, balanced and express the terroir at their best. They have great ageing potential.

The top wines of the domaine are: Pouilly-Fuissé Aux Bouthières, Pouilly-Fuissé Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, and Pouilly-Fuissé Aux Chailloux.

The Pouilly-Fuissé Aux Bouthières 2014 scored 91, the Pouilly-Fuissé Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2016 scored 90, and the Pouilly-Fuissé Aux Chailloux 2015 scored 90 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Pouilly-Fuissé Aux Bouthières 2014: “The 2014 Pouilly-Fuissé Aux Bouthières comes from century-old vines cropped at 50 hectoliters per hectare and sees between 24 and 36 months in demi-muids. It has a very attractive bouquet with red apples, citrus fruit, gunflint and candle wax aromas. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, some gorgeous Satsuma and pink grapefruit notes that complement the more exotic fruit such as pawpaw and passion fruit. Yet it remains very balanced and tensile when it could easily tip over and become overbearing. This is another excellent Pouilly-Fuissé from Renaud Pascal.”

History

Guillaume Renaud has been the winemaker of Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud since 2009.

The Renauds settled in Pouilly in 1937. Jean Renaud and his wife worked on behalf of Mr Edouard Balladur's wife as tenant farmers. For a long time, they were sharecroppers.

Emile Renaud, Jean Renaud's only son, took over the estate in 1973 with the help of his wife Germaine.

Pascal Renaud, following the premature death of his father, Emile Renaud, in 1986, took the decision, of helping his mother at the estate. Pascal Renaud’s wife, Mireille also contributed a lot.

In 1998, Edouard Balladur and his wife decided to sell the estate. Pascal and Mireille managed to buy some of the shared vines, to which they have since added with further purchases and leases.

The estate invests in bottling and labelling machinery and starts bottling their wines under their label in 2005.

Guillaume Renaud joined the estate in 2009 and his sister, Amandine Renaud did so as well in 2012.

Approach

Certified organic

Guillaume Renaud farms the vineyards according to a certified organic principle.

The grapes are picked early, the harvesting is mostly done manually. Guillaume Renaud prefers using natural yeast. The ageing lasts from 12 to 36 months depending on the cuvée. The wines are bottled with the use of high-quality corks, which does not influence the wine taste.
