About
Domaine Bret Brothers
Domaine Bret Brothers is a négociant, located in Mâconnais, Burgundy. The domaine has 14 different cuvées with a total area of the vineyards around 8 hectares. The grapes for the domaine’s wines are purchased from certified-organic winegrowers or those in conversion to organic. The domaine was certified by Ecocert since 2016.
Jean-Philippe Bret and Jean-Guillaume Bret’s wines are concentrated, seamless, and nicely balanced.
The top wines of the domaine are: Pouilly-Fuissé Sur La Roche, Pouilly-Fuissé Cuvée Terres de Vergisson, and Brouilly Cuvée La Pilonière.
The Pouilly-Fuissé Sur La Roche 2019 scored 92+, the Pouilly-Fuissé Cuvée Terres de Vergisson 2019 scored 92, and the Brouilly Cuvée La Pilonière 2018 scored 92 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Pouilly-Fuissé Sur La Roche 2019: “Notions of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp orchard fruit introduce the 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Sur La Roche, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered wine with good cut and grip. It's another cuvée with some upside potential.”
History
2001
Jean-Philippe Bret and Jean-Guillaume Bret are the winemakers of the Domaine Bret Brothers.
The négociant was founded in the summer of 2001. They produce local organic wines, mainly from the Mâconnais, in southern Burgundy. Since the 2019 vintage, 100 percent of their grape purchases have been certified organic or in conversion.
Jean-Philippe Bret and Jean-Guillaume Bret are also the winemakers at Domaine La Soufrandière, the family domaine, since 2000.
Approach
Organic, Certified biodynamic by Ecocert since 2016
The Bret Brothers has been making certified-organic wines since the 2006 vintage. The Ecocert certification was obtained in 2013.
The winemakers select micro-plots of old vines worked by passionate winegrowers on specific terroirs. The harvesting is done manually. Fermentations occur with natural microflora, long élevage, and discretion with oak. The ageing and bottling processes take place at the domaine.
