About

Maison Trenel

Maison Trenel is located in Charnay-lès-Mâcon, in the Mâconnais subregion of Burgundy. The maison’s vineyards are farmed organically by Nicolas Dietrich. No certification yet.

It is a small maison, making nearly 400.000 bottles per year – a mix of Mâconnais and Beaujolais, which are elegant and refined wines.

The top wine of the domaine is Saint-Véran Clos des Poncetys. The Saint-Véran Clos des Poncetys 2016 scored 90 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Saint-Véran Clos des Poncetys: “The 2016 Saint-Véran Clos des Poncetys comes from 0.8 hectares of red clay and a chalky bedrock and one-quarter of the crop is matured in oak barrels for around ten months. It has a clean and precise bouquet: apple blossom and cold wet stone, well defined and expanding in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a keen thread of acidity and just the right amount of tang courtesy of bitter lemon on the finish. I like the style and panache of this Saint-Véran. This is a well-crafted and very attractive Saint-Véran from Trenel.”

History

1928

Maison Trenel is farmed by Nicolas Dietrich.

The Maison was created by the négociant Henri Claudius Trénel in 1928. The business was continued by his son André Trenel.

In 2014 the maison was sold to the famous family Maison Michel Chapoutier, but remained autonomous.

Approach

Organic

Maison Trenel’s vineyards are farmed organically, not certified.

The grapes are partly destemmed. Maceration lasts 26 days at around 30°C. Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation. Maturation takes 12 months, one half in big barrels and the other in tanks.

Light filtration is done before bottling.
