The current winemaker is Elodie Michelot who cultivates 8 hectares holdings in Nuits-Saints-Georges and Morey-Saint-Denis. The inherent characteristics of the four generations of the Domaine Alain Michelot are authenticity and quality.
Top wines of the domaine Alain Michelot are: Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Chaignots Premier Cru, Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Champs Perdrix, and Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saints-Georges Premier Cru. Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Chaignots Premier Cru 1987 scored 88, Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Champs Perdrix 1986 scored 88, and Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saints-Georges Premier Cru 1987 scored 87 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker comments on Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Chaignots Premier Cru 1987: “The earthy, spicy, peppery Nuits St.-Georges Les Chaignots is impressive and quite concentrated, but is a bit tannic and marked by the scent of truffles. It is a large-scaled wine with more body and tannin than any of the other Michelot wines. Ideally, I would drink it between 1991-2000”.
History
Elodie Michelot is a daughter of Alain Michelot and the fourth generation of family winemakers in the Domaine Alain Michelot. In the present time family estate has a wide range of premier cru Nuits-Saint-Georges vineyards to offer: Les Cailles, Chaignots, Champs Perdrix, Forêts Saint-Georges, La Richemone, Les Saint-Georges and Vaucrains. There are also both village and premier cru vines in Morey-Saint-Denis.
Approach
The grapes are destemed, then given a short cool pre-fermentation maceration. The wines are aged by Elodie Michelot in 30 percent new wood barrels from three new coopers during 20 months with no racking.
