About
Domaine de Perdrix
Domaine des Perdrix is an ancient estate of five generations old, located in Premeaux Prissey. The domaine extends over 12 hectares of great terroir in Burgundy. Current winemaker is Benjamin Rousset, who is famous for being rigor and extremely attentive for details of winemaking.
The top wines of the Domaine de Perdrix are: Echézeaux Grand Cru, and Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Perdrix Premier Cru Cuvée Les 8 Ouvrées. Echézeaux Grand Cru 2002 scored 94-96, 1996 scored 93-95, and Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Perdrix Premier Cru Cuvée Les 8 Ouvrées Les 8 Ouvrées 2015 scored 93 by the Wine Advocate. Robert Parker comments on Echézeaux Grand Cru 2002: "Muscular yet seamless, elegant yet dense and plush, the cassis and black cherry-scented 2002 Echezeaux is a fabulous effort. Its satin-textured, medium to full-bodied personality bursts with black cherries, spices, and blackberries. This seductive wine is already a hedonist's dream yet there's no reason to believe it won't stand the test of time. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018. Bravo!".
History
The Domaine de Perdrix is a former well-known Château de Chamirey.
In 1996 Bertrand Devillard together with his children took back control of the Domaine Perdrix.
Since 2017 Benjamin Rousset has been a winemaker of the domaine, joined by a technical director, Carole Briffox, in 2019. Domaine de Perdrix holds plots in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Echézeaux Grand Cru. The heart of their holdings is the near-monopoly of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Aux Perdrix.
Approach
The work in the vineyard is done manually. Then the grapes are carefully sorted, destemmed, and put into the vats for cool pre-ferment maceration with punching down the cap. The temperature is controlled as not to exceed 32°C.
Wines are matured in 50 to 60 percent new wood barrels for 12 to 18 months without being racked.
When the wines get their fruit and flower primary aromas, they could be bottled.
