Nowadays the domaine is farmed by Henry-Frédéric Roch according to organic with biodynamics principles with no certification. Henry-Frédéric Roch is a winemaker who is always looking for balance in his wines.

Top wines of the Domaine Prieuré-Roche are: Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots Premier Cru, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Vieilles Vignes, and Vosne-Romanée Le Clos Goillotte. Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots Premier Cru 2005 scored 93+, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Vieilles Vignes 2015 scored 93, and Vosne-Romanée Le Clos Goillotte 2009 scored 93 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker comments on Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots Premier Cru 2005: “The 2005 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is showing very well, wafting from the glass with a complex aromatic mélange of dark berry fruit, orange rind, peonies, cinnamon, smoked meats and rich spices that are framed by a nicely integrated application of new oak and strongly recall the wines of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and muscular, with powdery tannins that assert themselves more and more prominently the longer the wine sits in the glass, good concentration at the core and ripe but lively acids. This Suchots is still a few years away from attaining its plenitude, but its quality is already apparent”.

History

1988

Domaine Prieuré-Roch is managed by Henry-Frédéric Roch, the son of the founder of the domaine - Henry-Frédéric Roch.

The roots of the domaine go back to 1988, when the late Henry-Frédéric Roch bought some parcels of vineyards, one of which was Clos de la Goillotte, sold by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The vineyards was replanted in 1964/1965.

The late Henry-Frédéric Roch liked the sound of the word “Prieuré”, so it was added as the part of the domaine’s name.

Current Henry-Frédéric Roch makes wines from different vineyards, and one monopole - Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos des Corvées. The monopoly's uniqueness consists in its plots, in particular old vines with 45 to 50 years old.

Approach

Biodynamic without certification

The vines are farmed organically with biodynamics.

Henry-Frédéric Roch prefers to vinify the grapes without being destemmed. The fermentation is carried out in wooden vats, with punching the cap down. Henry-Frédéric Roch does not tend to use sulfur, he says: “Wine is originally meant to give pleasure, not be a punishment”, so he stopped using it, in the vinification process.

The wines are aged in the barrels kept at a tilt in the Premeaux cellar.
